“Where Stars Are Born” evokes the moment where energy condenses into form. Swirling layers of alcohol ink create a luminous cosmic backdrop in deep blues, violets, and aurora-like tones, suggesting nebulae and interstellar clouds.
Across this celestial field, sculptural crystalline structures branch outward like cosmic fault lines or star-forming pathways. These dimensional formations were hand-built and enhanced with borax-grown crystals, creating a striking contrast between the fluid motion of the inks and the geological presence of the textured structures.
From a distance, the work reads as an expansive celestial landscape. Up close, intricate crystal formations and mineral-like textures reveal themselves, giving the piece a sense of both cosmic scale and microscopic growth.
The result is a work that feels both astronomical and organic — capturing the tension between chaos and creation.
Created by an Alberta artist as part of an evolving body of contemporary mixed media work exploring texture, dimensionality, and natural systems.
